About the CCC

The CCC is an independent committee which advises the UK Government about tackling climate change, and also through its Adaptation Sub-Committee about adapting to climate change. The Committee is Chaired by Lord Adair Turner, who is also Chair of the FSA.

The other members of the CCC are: Professor Jim Skea, Sir Brian Hoskins, Lord Robert May, Professor Julia King, Dr Samuel Fankhauser & Lord John Krebs.

The Committee produces reports on the progress made in tackling climate change for Parliament and was set up under the Climate Change Act (2008). The Committee also produces other reports on a range of issues relating to climate change for its funding bodies which are: the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Scottish Executive, Welsh Assembly Government and Northern Irish Executive.

An Adaptation Sub-Committee reports to the main Committee on issues relating to adaptation and preparing for the impacts climate change may have in the UK. The ASC is Chaired by Lord John Krebs. The other members of the ASC are:

Graham Wynne, Professor Jim Hall, Dr. Sam Fankhauser, Dr. Andrew Dlugolecki, Baroness Barbara Young, Professor Martin Parry, Professor Anne Johnson & Professor Tim Palmer.

The CCC and ASC are supported by a secretariat of staff led by Chief Executive David Kennedy. The secretariat is made up of scientific and economic analysts, and a small corporate team.
