The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) today welcomes renewed interest in Carbon Capture and Storage technology, given its potential importance in reducing UK emissions at least cost.
The technology is the subject of a major new review published today by the Parliamentary Advisory Group on CCS.
The CCC has previously highlighted the crucial role of CCS in helping the UK to meet its climate change targets. If delivered in a low-cost way, the technology could greatly reduce the cost of decarbonising the UK and global economy.
The Committee recently called for a new strategy and strong Government-backed leadership for CCS in a letter to the former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, The Rt Hon Amber Rudd MP.
