The Government has published a new Clean Growth Strategy, setting out how it intends to further reduce the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions in order to meet the UK’s legally-binding carbon targets (‘carbon budgets’). The strategy, which details how the Government will achieve the fourth and fifth carbon budgets in particular, is required under the terms of the UK’s Climate Change Act 2008. The Chairman of the Committee has issued the following response.
The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) is looking to appoint two new expert members specialising in climate science and the power sector.
The Chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, Lord Deben, and Committee member Paul Johnson have been reappointed to their roles. Lord Deben has led the Committee since 2012. His five-year term, due to end this year, has been extended for a further five years until September 2022. Paul Johnson’s five-year term, which also concludes this year, has been similarly extended for a further five years until 2022.
The Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC) of the Committee on Climate Change is seeking two new expert members. The appointees will be responsible for helping to steer the work of the ASC, determining its strategic direction and providing impartial input into the Sub-Committee’s work.
