Analysis of how land use planning decisions affect vulnerability to climate risks

This is a report supporting Adapting to climate change in the UK – Measuring progress Adaptation Sub-Committee progress report (July 2011).

The supporting research seeks to understand the effect of the town and country planning system on the vulnerability to different climate risks. The report finds that land-use planning affects the UK’s vulnerability to the following risks:

  • river and tidal flooding,
  • pluvial flooding,
  • coastal erosion,
  • heat stress, and
  • loss of biodiversity.
