Assessment of potential to reduce UK F-gas emissions (Ricardo and Gluckman Consulting)

This report by Ricardo and Gluckman Consulting was produced to support the Committee on Climate Change’s (CCC) 2018 Progress Report and 2019 Net Zero report.

Prepared for the Committee, this report looks at areas where UK policy could go further than the existing international framework to reduce F-gas emissions. The report’s key findings are:

  • Updated projections of F-gas emissions show that current regulations are expected to deliver significant emissions reductions between now and 2050.
  • There is modest potential to reduce F-gas emissions further and faster than the pace of the existing EU F-gas Regulation in the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump sector.
  • There are effective alternatives to metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) that currently use propellants with a high greenhouse gas impact. These alternatives maintain the clinical effectiveness of existing inhalers.

This supported the Net-Zero Technical report.
