This report, An assessment of the potential for demand-side fuel savings in the HGV sector, was commissioned from the Centre for Sustainable Road Freight by the Committee on Climate Change.
It provides supporting information for the Advice on the fifth carbon budget report.
It was commissioned because reducing emissions from surface transport has traditionally been viewed as being difficult due to:
- limited scope for electrification,
- significant barriers to adoption of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and
- limited availability of other power train options
