Baroness Brown writes to Lord Gardiner about the Adaptation Reporting Power

Baroness Brown of Cambridge, chair of the Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC), writes to Lord Gardiner about Defra’s proposed approach to the third round of the Adaptation Reporting Power (ARP).

The letter acknowledges the value of the ARP process. It also highlights where Defra’s approach is not consistent with the ASC’s previous advice that:

  • The third round of ARP be mandatory rather than voluntary
  • The timing of the ARP should allow for the development of a consistent national appraisal of the management of climate risks
  • Consistent quantified reporting should be an aspiration of the ARP
  • Local Authorities should be included in ARP reporting
