Advice on the long-term (2050) target for reducing UK greenhouse gas emissions

In advance of its first advice report to the UK Government on building a low-carbon economy, the Committee on Climate Change was asked to advise on the recommended level of the long-term (2050) target to reduce UK emissions as set out in the Climate Change Act 2008.

Advice was also requested on whether to increase the UK’s 2050 emissions reduction from the then 60% target.

In October 2008, the CCC advised the Government to adopt a more ambitious target to reduce the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% in 2050 compared to 1990 levels.
