Committee on Climate Change

Independent advice to Government on building a low-carbon economy

Reports

The CCC provides analytical reports to the UK Government and Devolved Administrations about how the UK can tackle climate change and adapt to its impacts.

The CCC's first report Building a low-carbon economy - the UK's contribution to tackling climate change was published on 1st December 2008. The report contains the CCC’s recommendations on the 2050 emissions reduction target and advises on the levels of the UK’s first three legally binding carbon budgets for 2008-2022.

The CCC's first Annual Report & Accounts for 2008/09 will be published on 16 July 2009 and laid before Parliament in the UK and Devolved Administrations.

On 12 October 2009, the CCC will publish its first Progress Report. This will assess the progress that has been made by the Government so far in reducing emissions and the implications of the recession and 'credit crunch' for meeting the Carbon Budgets. The report will set out the emission reduction indicators that will be used to judge progress and will provide a detailled analysis of the policies required to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases from the power sector, from buildings and industry and from transport.

In January 2009, the CCC was asked by the Secretary of State for Transport to produce a review into UK Aviation emissions. The CCC's Aviation Report will be published on 8 December 2009 and will include analysis of UK aviation demand and emissions, methods to improve the carbon efficiency of planes, the use of biofuels and hydrogen in aviation and will also advise on the UK's contribution to a global deal on aviation.
