CCC’s first Annual Report published – 16 July 2009

The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) today published its first Annual Report and Accounts for the period ended 31 March 2009.

The report sets out the progress that has been made by the CCC since its inception, including the advice on the 2050 target and carbon budgets which were published in the CCC’s inaugural report: ‘Building a low-carbon economy in the UK’.  So far, all of its recommendations on climate change have been accepted by Government. The report also summarises the CCC’s business objectives and deliverables for the coming year, including the first progress report to Parliament to be published in October, and a review of UK aviation emissions and policy commissioned by the Department for Transport to be published in December.  The CCC’s commitment to reducing its own carbon emissions is detailed in the document which sets out four commitments to sustainability and a series of measures that the CCC has already taken to reduce its impact on the environment.
