This is a letter from Emma Pinchbeck, Chief Executive, Climate Change Committee (CCC), to Edward Mountain MSP, Convener of the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee.
The letter outlines the CCC’s offer to the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee to provide top level analysis on the draft Climate Change Plan (CCP) before the formal publication of the CCC’s progress report to the Scottish Government.
2. Key messages
- In accordance with the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009, the CCC has committed to publishing our progress report within the Scottish Government’s consultation period, so as to not delay the Government’s ability to conclude their carbon budget setting responsibilities.
- The CCC is grateful to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Energy for agreeing to our proposal to be sent to the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee offering a private top level briefing on the CCP in the first week of February.
- The CCC is pleased to provide evidence to the Net Zero, Energy and Transport Committee in public at the earliest opportunity possible following the publication of the Scottish progress report.
