About the ASC

The Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC) is a sub-committee of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), established under the Climate Change Act 2008.  The ASC will provide expert advice and scrutiny through the CCC to ensure that the Government’s programme for adaptation enables the UK to prepare effectively for the impacts of climate change. 

The Climate Change Act 2008 sets out the role of the ASC, which will be to provide advice, analysis, information and other assistance through the Committee on Climate Change on:

  • the preparation of the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment;
  • the implementation of Her Majesty's Government's Adaptation Programme (for England and
  • requests from the national authorities (of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) for advice on adaptation.
